Happy Sepia (ハッピーセピア Happī Sepia) is a previous manga work by Rasuko Okuma, who canceled after ten chapters and the first three guest chapters. It was serialized from March to December 2017 in the same magazine (Manga Time Kirara).[1] The completed series was released as a collection of works on November 27, 2023.[2]

This is the first collection of works by Rasuko Okuma, the author of Hoshikuzu Telepath! The title story, Happy Sepia, is about a young girl who flies back to the past for her benefactor, a teacher. What regrets does the always kind teacher have...? Furthermore, it includes an original story manga about Umika, the main character of Hoshikuzu Telepath, and her sister Honami! Here is a book filled with happiness that will never fade away.[3]
Synopsis[]
Happy Sepia begins with the main character, Kaede Hatogaya (born August 10[4]), time-traveling to the world ten years ago. If she could go back to the past; many people use their powers for their own sake—to undo past mistakes, to win big in lotteries and horse races. However, Kaede's purpose was elsewhere.[1]
Going back in time, Kaede tells Minami Sunamori that she will be a high school student this spring. She used to be her own tutor, and Kaede admires Minami like her real older sister. Unable to forget the sad look on Minami's face as she muttered that she wanted to spend high school life with Kaede when she saw her student in uniform, she began looking for a way to make that happen.[1]

- A cheerful girl. She admires her home tutor Minami and wanted to go back in time to get rid of her past regrets.
- Minami Sunamori (砂守 みなみ Sunamori Minami)
- A serious and hard-working student in high school. Having grown up as Kaede's home tutor, she became more kind and gentle.
- Akira Ichimizu (一水 あきら Ichimizu Akira)
- An energetic person who is currently a time travel researcher. She used to be Minami's classmate back in high school.
- Yuzu Kusakabe (日下部 ゆづ Kusakabe Yuzu)
- An easygoing girl. She was in the same class as Minami and Akira in high school. She and Akira were childhood friends.
Cancelation[]
The series was canceled after all 10 chapters and has some hints that were not collected until 2023. The most prominent of these is Minami's high school classmate, Akira Ichimizu, who is actually a time travel researcher who sent Kaede to the past.[1]
Okuma-sensei "did not draw" how Akira became a researcher in the story. In fact, it may be that couldn't draw it due to the number of remaining chapters, but would like to express it this way.[1]
Because the theme of the manga is not the elements themselves such as time travel and time paradox. It is because of Kaede's earnest desire to repay Minami's kindness by traveling through time, and because of the spiritual growth of Kaede who has become able to see Minami's weaknesses through that journey.[1]
