"Cometary Encounter" (彗星エンカウント Suisei Enkaunto) is the first episode of the anime series Hoshikuzu Telepath. It premiered on October 9, 2023.
Synopsis[]
Umika Konohoshi is a first-year high school who dreams of meeting aliens. On her first day at school, Umika is surprised to meet a classmate, Yu Akeuchi, who claims "to be an alien"! Umika is nervous about Yu, but she is too shy to speak well. But Yu, with her special alien ability "Odekopathy," is able to sense such feelings of Umika. Umika wants to get to know Yu better. She is determined to convey her thoughts in her own words. Meanwhile, Yu reveals her secret...[1]
Plot[]
Before the entrance ceremony, Umika Konohoshi received a lot of school things, she picked up her uniform and was really shy while staring at the mirror when her tummy hurt. She knows she won't be able to talk to anyone or make friends. In her imagination, she can't speak well to Earth in outer space and tears herself. The aliens call her to reach themselves and Umika finally hugs them. Umika sees a shooting star and wishes to meet an alien. She will try just a little harder starting tomorrow.
Meanwhile, a girl wakes up in a different place, she already holds a student handbook and is just looking for a student ID.
The next day at school, Emihara was introduced to them and will be a homeroom teacher. Her name's etymology means "smile," so she hopes they can smile there. Umika draws an alien in her textbook, and Emihara suddenly yells at Umika. A beside classmate cheers her when introductions are always nerve-wracking, and Umika knows she is not good at talking to people. Emihara next to her, Umika stands a little and introduces them shortly, and she makes tired and hopeless. In her past middle school, she couldn't talk or laugh with them, but it was like from another planet.
After self-introduction, Emihara decides to go to the entrance ceremony. A kid Umika reads stories about the radiant and far-off worlds, then Umika won't give up and will go and find outer space somewhere. According to her research, some aliens can communicate telepathically. She will prove that will find aliens who can understand and she sparkles herself. A girl rushes to school for being late because her spaceship broke down; she shows them to her student ID named Yu Akeuchi, an alien.
Umika hides in the classroom using a curtain while Yu talks to her classmate. She can really talk to her and she can do it and already has the Cosmic language dictionary. She reads the word "hello" as a Cosmic language and it's hard to read that language. She walks a little while holding a dictionary and hears what happens during the entrance ceremony and the classmate tells Yu should have picked a better joke. Umika should have realized about a joke and it's impossible to across an alien. Those people joke with Yu about aliens.
Umika runs outside the classroom and Yu finds her using her alien radar. Umika is wrong about her and will definitely find them, Yu already knows that book. She tries to say "hello" in Cosmic language is "peggjov=movlov, pivou bovvu=vuv." Yu knows that Cosmic language is the hard part. She follows her to say "movlov, movlov" but Umika can't say it properly. Yu really happens to her and will see her forehead quickly. When using her forehead ability she reads Umika's mind it has stress, worries, shock, anxiety, and longing for outer space. Umika aways her and Yu doesn't seem like a fever. She apologizes to her, calls her Earthling, and introduces her forehead ability as Odekopathy (transl. Foreheadpathy). Umika truths she could be a real alien and she wanted to become friends and fainted.
In her dream, Umika really wants to meet an alien and Yu reaches out to her. Umika wakes up from her dream and is excited to have finally met an alien. She wonders if Yu let her be a friend, and her words can't reach anyone there.
The next day, Umika wrote a self-introduction on paper and wanted to be her friend if she needed to introduce herself properly while walking in the hallway. Two classmates come before the class starts. Emihara started the class orientation for the tag-team scavenger hunt game. She will follow then in the rules and must complete the tasks written on them, and she'll decide for all teams by lottery. Umika has a chance to talk to Yu if they draw the same number and she tries to pick a lottery, but Yu draws two of the same number and picks her number, and Umika tears again if they pair up.
During the scavenger hunt game, Umika looks at the paper that needs to tell her in her own words and gets fired up. They find them together until Umika really makes them hard to find. She can't even talk to Earthlings, but she thinks could talk to an alien. Yu sures they'll find a card in no time and that everything should be okay. Yu uses her Odekopathy to Umika which reads her mind. She wanted to tell with her forehead ability, but Umika can't say it and Yu won't laugh at her. Yu uses her alien radar to find a card that will be on the roof.
They finally reach the roof, and Umika thinks about Yu. She finally introduces herself properly including her height, her hobby, and her lifelong dream. Yu thanks to her telling herself, and Umika's words really reached her. Since Yu is an alien, and she will go back to her home planet someday, Umika wants to go to outer space. It'll be a bargain if they stick together and they work hard on space. Yu finally finds a card using her alien radar and picks it up. She opens an envelope when a task does their card hold. They laugh together when they read the card.
Umika sparkles at Yu about superhuman physical ability, superhuman mental ability, and can also use telepathy. In reality, Yu changes clothes quickly, plays volleyball and tennis, cleans the window, and sleeps during class. Umika is trying to think of her when she thinks of aliens and trying to mimic the form of Earthling. Yu has a secret and Umika might want to ask her. Yu thinks when Umika asks her something, but she refuses it when Yu releases her a drink.
After school, Umika leaves the classroom and hides it, and Yu finds her something. Umika is not tailing or stalking her, but no excuses to follow her. Yu gives up trying to find her and looks for her home, and Umika loses sight of her. Umika cries while walking until Yu catches her, and they walk home together. Yu asks Umika if she wants to come to her house, but it's her base.
They reach Yu's house, Umika wonders if it's a lighthouse and Yu lives there. Yu already caught a fish, holding a net, and hugged it. They go inside the house and Umika is surprised when she sees a sign, Yu finds a button to turn on a light, but it's actually a lantern. Umika sees the Cosmic language notepad called space voyage diary, Yu jokes Umika that is her private. Yu has a truth that doesn't have any memories of her time before on Earth and she came and found the lighthouse. She opens the last page of her voyage diary and she happens to wake up after the spaceship breaks down, but she can't remember any of it. Umika won't be disappointed in Yu when she is a useless alien and she might want to learn her secret. She uses her forehead to Yu to apologize for not realizing she is not faced and she will make a rocket so Yu can go back home. Yu loves her besties for life. However, that girl from Umika's classmate will be someone in the lighthouse.
In the post-credit scene, Yu is trying to forehead Umika, but it's really strongest.
